Ghatshila News: Illegal Liquor Crackdown in Ghatshila, 1500 Kg Mahua Destroyed, 60 Litres Seized

Jamshedpur/Ghatshila, September 30, 2025: In a major crackdown ahead of Durga Puja, the Excise Department, under the direction of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Assistant Commissioner of Excise, carried out a joint raid in Ghatshila on Tuesday. The operation led to the destruction of 1,500 kilograms of Java Mahua and the seizure of 60 litres of country-made illegal liquor.

Excise Department and Police Conduct Joint Raid in Ghatshila

The raid was led by Excise Inspector Ramdas Bhagat in coordination with Ghatshila Police. Teams targeted illegal liquor brewing units and selling points in the Hiraganj area, dismantling local setups engaged in the illicit trade. Officials confirmed that the seized Mahua, used for preparing country liquor, was destroyed on the spot.

Cases Registered Under Excise Act in Ghatshila

Authorities confirmed that cases have been registered under relevant sections of the Excise Act against those running the brewing units. Officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of intensified action against illegal liquor operations ahead of Durga Puja celebrations.

Focus on Illegal Liquor Trade in Ghatshila Ahead of Bypolls

Excise Department officials stated that special monitoring is being conducted in the Ghatshila subdivision due to the upcoming Assembly by-election. The district administration has directed strict action against liquor traders to prevent the circulation of illicit alcohol during the festival and election period.

Team Involved in Ghatshila Excise Raid

The joint operation included Sub-Inspector of Excise Md. Gufran, Ghatshila Police official Devshay Bhagat, along with teams from the Excise Police, District Police, and Home Guards. Officials further confirmed that such raids will continue regularly to curb illegal liquor production and sale in the region.
