Dhanbad, August 28, 2026: Three children drowned while bathing in a local pond in Ranglitand village under Topchanchi police station in Dhanbad district on Friday, turning Raksha Bandhan into a day of mourning for their families and the village.
The deceased included two girls and one boy. The incident occurred when the children went to the nearby pond to bathe.
Children drowned while trying to rescue one another
According to the information available, the three children – Rujhajhal, Kundari and Abha, residents of Ranglitand had gone to the pond on Friday.
During bathing, one of the girls reportedly entered a deeper section of the pond and began to drown. The other two children tried to rescue her but also lost their balance in the deep water.
All three subsequently went under the water.
Villagers pulled children from pond
After learning about the incident, local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts.
The villagers managed to pull all three children out of the pond after considerable effort. They were immediately taken to Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad.
However, doctors examined the children and declared all three dead.
The incident on Raksha Bandhan has left the families and residents of Ranglitand in mourning.
