East Singhbhum, September 8, 2026: East Singhbhum Police arrested 67 accused and sent them to judicial custody during a two-month crackdown against illegal drug trade, illegal arms trafficking and suspicious activities in public places.
The campaign was conducted across the district during July and August 2026, according to a press release issued by the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police on Tuesday.
Police reported the seizure of 133.9 kg of ganja, 108.6 grams of brown sugar, 10 country-made firearms and 15 live cartridges during the operations.
36 arrested in drug-related cases
Police registered 18 cases in different police station areas as part of the action against the illegal drug trade.
A total of 36 accused were arrested in these cases, according to the police.
The department said the campaign was aimed at disrupting networks involved in the illegal supply and distribution of narcotic substances.
31 arrested in illegal arms cases
The police also intensified action against illegal weapons.
A total of 10 cases were registered during the arms-related operation, resulting in the arrest of 31 accused.
Police recovered 10 country-made firearms and 15 live cartridges from those arrested.
Authorities said action against individuals involved in the illegal possession, supply or use of weapons would continue as part of efforts to prevent their use in criminal activities.
Over 2,000 people checked
Police also conducted checks against groups involved in loitering and suspicious activities at public places.
More than 2,000 people were checked during the campaign. Of these, 787 people who were found involved in such activities were released on PR bonds.
Police to continue zero-tolerance campaign
The police said the campaign was supported by strengthened intelligence and information networks across the district.
Authorities said the crackdown would continue under a zero-tolerance approach towards activities that threaten public safety and contribute to crime.
The police said continued enforcement would focus on illegal drugs, weapons and suspicious activities to strengthen security for residents of East Singhbhum.
