Koderma, September 8, 2026: Thieves allegedly broke into a house in Dumri under Jayanagar police station late Monday night and escaped with jewellery worth around ₹4 lakh and ₹10,000 in cash while the family members were asleep inside.
In an unusual aspect of the incident, the thieves allegedly locked the doors of the bedrooms from outside, preventing the occupants from immediately coming out while the burglary was taking place.
Thieves entered through rear of house
According to the information available, around three to four thieves entered the house from the rear at approximately 2:30 am.
They allegedly broke the lock of a grill at the back of the house and entered the premises. The thieves then reached the ground floor and broke open a locked box, from which they allegedly took jewellery.
The group subsequently went to the first floor, where family members were sleeping in separate rooms. The thieves allegedly bolted the doors from outside before continuing their search of the house.
Jewellery and cash taken from locker
The thieves reportedly spent around an hour searching the house.
During the burglary, they allegedly broke open the locker of an almirah and took jewellery valued at approximately ₹4 lakh, along with ₹10,000 in cash, before fleeing.
The family members eventually realised that a theft was taking place and used their mobile phones to alert nearby villagers.
Villagers reached the house and opened the bedroom doors that had been locked from outside. However, by then, the thieves had reportedly escaped under the cover of darkness.
Police begin investigation
Jayanagar police reached the house after being informed about the incident and questioned the family members about the sequence of events.
Homeowner Satish Yadav told police that the burglary took place at around 2:30 am. He said the thieves entered through the rear of the house, broke open a box on the ground floor and then went upstairs before carrying out the theft.
Jayanagar police station in-charge Saurabh Sharma said an investigation is underway.
Police are collecting clues to identify and arrest the suspects and have said efforts are being made to solve the case at the earliest.
