Ranchi, August 18, 2026: The Jharkhand Rural Development Department has allocated Rs 6.08 crore to engage 659 computer assistants/operators and 576 multi-tasking staff (MTS) during the 2026-27 financial year, with the move aimed at strengthening digital work at the panchayat level and staffing district and block offices.
Rural Development Department Secretary Manoj Kumar has issued a letter to all Deputy Development Commissioners regarding the arrangement. The services will be engaged through an external agency, according to the department’s decision outlined in the source material.
One computer assistant for every seven panchayats
Jharkhand has 4,350 Gram Panchayats, for which 659 computer assistants/operators have been provided for under the arrangement.
The department’s allocation is based broadly on a ratio of one computer assistant for every seven panchayats. Where three additional panchayats remain after applying the seven-panchayat calculation within a block, an additional computer assistant will be provided.
The personnel are expected to support computer-based work at panchayat offices, online data entry, reporting of government schemes and other digital work handled through the rural development administration.
The move is intended to improve the capacity of panchayats to manage increasingly digital administrative and reporting requirements.
576 MTS staff for district and block offices
The department has also approved the engagement of 576 multi-tasking staff for district and block-level offices.
At the district level, 48 MTS positions have been provided, with two staff members allocated to each of the state’s 24 districts. Another 528 positions will be distributed across 264 blocks, with two MTS personnel assigned to each block.
The MTS category will cover support services such as drivers, attendants, cleaners, sweepers, caretakers, generator operators, night guards and stenographer-cum-typists, according to the department’s stated provision.
Rs 6.08 crore allocated for 2026-27
The total allocation for these services is Rs 6,08,19,900, which will be met from the Rural Development Department’s budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
The department’s move is expected to strengthen staffing at district and block offices while providing additional support for digital operations at the panchayat level.
With computer assistants assigned across the state’s 4,350 Gram Panchayats, the arrangement is also expected to support online monitoring and reporting of rural development schemes.
