Ranchi, September 07, 2026: A police operation launched after a suspected bike thief was detained at Ranchi Sadar Hospital has led to the arrest of seven people and the recovery of four motorcycles, according to police.
The action followed a tip-off received on September 6 about a suspicious person allegedly moving around the Sadar Hospital premises with the intention of stealing a motorcycle. Personnel from Tiger Mobile, PCR and other police teams deployed around the hospital were maintaining surveillance in the area.
Acting on the information, police detained the suspect at the hospital premises. During questioning, investigators followed information allegedly provided by the suspect and subsequently registered a case at Lower Bazar police station.
The investigation led to the recovery of four motorcycles bearing registration numbers JH09AJ-8499, JH01DM-2841, JH01BP-4092 and JH05DL-8507.
Six people identified as Irfan Ansari, Mohammad Kaish Alam, Mohsin Rai, Imran Alam alias Bhalo, Mohammad Zafarulla and Saif Ansari alias Raj were arrested in connection with the case and sent to judicial custody.
Wanted accused from 2021 case also arrested
During the same operation, police also arrested Shahid Rai, 40, who was wanted as a primary accused in a separate case registered in 2021.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Lower Bazar police station in-charge Lav Kumar Singh, with a team comprising a police sub-inspector and armed personnel.
Police are continuing the investigation into the recovered motorcycles and the alleged network to establish the role of those arrested and identify any further links in the bike theft cases.
