Khunti, September 5, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Md. Javed Hussain inspected Sadar Hospital in Khunti on Saturday and directed health officials to strengthen hospital operations, ensure adequate medicines and improve facilities for patients and their attendants.
During the inspection, Hussain reviewed key areas of the hospital, including the emergency ward, labour room, operation theatre, diagnostic laboratory, Maternal and Child Hospital, medicine distribution centre, registration counter and doctors’ rooms.
Focus on medicines, ICU and hospital infrastructure
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the availability of doctors and healthcare workers, functioning of different wards and the treatment being provided to patients. He directed officials to ensure that all wards operate effectively and that patients receive timely and quality treatment.
After reviewing medicine stocks, he instructed officials to maintain adequate supplies of essential medicines, particularly those with higher consumption.
Hussain also stressed regular cleaning of the hospital premises and toilets, proper medical-waste management, drinking-water availability and adequate seating arrangements for patients’ attendants. He directed officials to install necessary signage boards to make it easier for patients and visitors to navigate the hospital.
He gave particular emphasis to improving ICU operations and making proper use of available resources. Officials were also instructed to complete the process of putting the PSA plant into operation at the earliest.
DC checks patient facilities and diagnostic services
During the inspection, Hussain interacted with patients undergoing treatment and sought information about the healthcare facilities and food being provided to them.
He also reviewed the laboratory services and directed officials to display a clear rate chart listing all available tests outside the laboratory. He further asked them to consider establishing an additional sample-collection centre to improve convenience for patients.
Officials informed the Deputy Commissioner that more than 80 types of diagnostic tests are available free of cost at the DPH Lab in Sadar Hospital for ration-card holders and families covered under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
The tests include CBC, blood sugar, liver and kidney function tests, dengue, malaria, HIV, thyroid and vitamin-related tests, among others.
Review meeting held with health officials
Following the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner held a review meeting with the Civil Surgeon, doctors and health officials. The meeting covered hospital operations, medicine supplies, available resources and problems affecting healthcare delivery.
The administration directed officials to address identified issues and ensure that available hospital resources are used effectively for patient care.
