Chaibasa, September 5, 2026: Teachers play a role far beyond classroom instruction, shaping students’ character, values and direction in life, West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar said at a Teachers’ Day programme in Chaibasa on Saturday.
The event was organised at the auditorium of the Chief Minister Excellence Plus Two District High School, Chaibasa, where Kumar addressed teachers and students and emphasised that learning is a continuous process.
He said lessons gained through experience, guidance, inspiration and interaction with others can influence a person’s journey. Teachers, he added, have a particularly important role because they combine academic knowledge with lessons in discipline, responsibility, values and social conduct.
Teachers’ influence extends beyond students
Kumar said teachers help identify students’ abilities and provide them with the direction needed to develop their potential. Their knowledge and experience can have an impact beyond individual students, reaching families, society and future generations.
Describing teachers as an important foundation for nation-building, he called for greater respect for their contribution to society.
The Deputy Commissioner also remembered Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the eminent educationist, philosopher and former President of India, on Teachers’ Day. He said Radhakrishnan regarded education as more than a means of securing employment and emphasised its role in developing character, thinking and personality.
Students urged to value learning and character
Addressing students, Kumar said academic marks alone should not define success. He encouraged them to become responsible, sensitive and good human beings while making continuous efforts to learn.
He urged students to remain curious, follow discipline and values in their daily lives and maintain respect for their teachers.
Assistant Collector Ira Jorwal, District Education Officer Prince Kumar, District Education Superintendent Praveen Kumar, the school principal, teachers and a large number of students attended the programme.
