Ranchi, August 17, 2026: The Jharkhand government has decided to cancel the JSSC-Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and all examinations conducted through TDPL, Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on Monday following a high-level meeting with ministers in Ranchi.
The decision comes amid a prolonged student agitation over alleged irregularities in the state’s recruitment examination system. Soren said the government had decided to address the concerns raised by the protesting students and undertake a wider review of the examination process. Multiple reports on Monday also confirmed the cancellation decision.
The government has further decided to examine examinations conducted in Jharkhand since 2014 as part of a broader inquiry into irregularities in the recruitment process.
Committee to review examination system
The government will constitute a committee headed by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal to frame and strengthen procedures for conducting recruitment examinations, according to reports on the Cabinet decision. The objective is to improve transparency and reduce the scope for irregularities in future examinations.
Soren said students, parents and teachers would also be able to submit suggestions through a portal as part of the government’s effort to improve the examination system.
The Chief Minister said the government would not spare those found responsible for irregularities. He also directed the CID to pursue the investigation fully and examine the matter in depth.
All TDPL examinations and results to be scrapped
The decision covers examinations conducted through TDPL, along with associated results and selections. Soren said the government had decided to cancel everything connected with the agency’s examination process, including examinations conducted, results published and selections made.
The JSSC-CGL examination is among the examinations affected by the decision. The government move follows weeks of student protests demanding action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The state’s recruitment examination controversy has already led to other decisions, including the announced cancellation of the 14th JPSC civil services examination and two backlog examinations.
Wider review of recruitment examinations
The government has also announced a comprehensive examination of recruitment examinations conducted since 2014. The move broadens the scope of the current controversy beyond the JSSC-CGL and TDPL examinations.
Soren said investigative agencies, including the CID and SIT, would be expected to examine the matter thoroughly. The government’s stated objective is to establish greater transparency and accountability in the recruitment examination system.
Government considers new mining legislation
The Cabinet meeting also discussed issues related to mining legislation. Soren said the government would hold further discussions on the proposed new mining law.
If required, the government may convene a special session of the Jharkhand Assembly to deliberate on the legislation, according to the information provided after the meeting.
The examination decisions mark a significant response to the ongoing student agitation and place the state’s recruitment examination system under broader scrutiny.
