Ranchi, August 17, 2026: Ranchi Municipal Corporation has ordered strict action against coaching centres violating safety and building regulations while simultaneously launching an anti-encroachment drive along the city’s Main Road.

The decisions were taken during a review meeting chaired by Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, where the civic body assessed the status of around 1,305 coaching institutions operating in Ranchi.

Coaching centres found operating without mandatory approvals or violating safety requirements will face sealing action, according to the directions issued during the meeting.

Coaching centres to be checked for safety compliance

The civic body has identified several grounds for action, including absence of a trade licence, an approved building plan or Fire NOC. Institutions with narrow entry and exit points or enrolment beyond their permitted capacity will also face action.

Coaching centres operating illegally from residential buildings are also slated for sealing.

The review comes as the municipal corporation steps up scrutiny of establishments that could pose safety concerns for students and staff.

Anti-encroachment drive from Ekra Masjid to Sujata Chowk

Separately, the corporation conducted a special anti-encroachment campaign from Iqra Masjid to Sujata Chowk under the leadership of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Kumar.

Officials inspected areas around major buildings, including Rospa Tower, Church Complex and Hebron City Building, to measure gift deed areas earmarked for road widening and setback spaces. The exercise was used to identify encroachments along the route.

Two establishments operating illegally within the gift deed area of Rospa Tower were demolished and removed during the drive.

The corporation also imposed fines of Rs 25,000 each on the Reebok and Skechers showrooms for allegedly installing advertisements in gift deed and parking areas.

Five carts and a kiosk seized

As part of the operation, officials seized five roadside carts, one kiosk and other materials occupying public space. The corporation said the action was aimed at clearing the route of encroachments and improving traffic movement.

Officials also removed hoardings and other unauthorised boards that were below the prescribed height requirement, along with monopoles and illegal boards installed on the road median, citing compliance with an order of the Jharkhand High Court.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Kumar said the campaign would continue as part of efforts to bring Ranchi’s roads in line with the master plan and improve traffic flow across the city.
