Palamu, August 16, 2026: CRPF officer Rajeev Tiwari, a native of Nenuwa village in Palamu’s Chainpur area, has been selected for the Police Medal for Gallantry in recognition of his role in a counter-terror operation in Srinagar on November 2, 2024.
The announcement has brought recognition to the Palamu native’s service and is being welcomed in his village and across the district.
Tiwari, the son of Satyanarayan Tiwari, was serving as a Second-in-Command officer of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) when he led the Valley Quick Reaction Team in Srinagar during the operation.
Operation targeted A-category terrorist
According to the source material, the operation was conducted in a highly sensitive area of Srinagar where an A-category terrorist was hiding. The militant was allegedly involved in several serious incidents, including the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir Police inspector.
Tiwari led the security operation under difficult and high-risk conditions. The team surrounded the area and killed the terrorist during the operation.
His planning and leadership were credited with enabling the security forces to respond quickly while avoiding a larger incident and civilian casualties in the area.
Two decades of service with CRPF
Tiwari joined the force as a directly recruited gazetted officer in the 2004 batch and has spent more than two decades serving in sensitive and challenging locations across the country.
His record also includes recognition for his service within the CRPF. He has received the CRPF Director General’s Medal 10 times for distinguished service and acts of bravery, according to the source material.
In 2021-22, Tiwari represented India as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. For his service there, he was awarded the United Nations Peace Medal-2022 by the UN Police Commissioner.
The gallantry medal now announced adds another distinction to his career and brings recognition to a CRPF officer with roots in Palamu.
