Ranchi, Semtember 19, 2025: The Jharkhand High Court conducted a hearing on a petition concerning the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff to vacant positions in state universities. During the proceedings, the court directed both the state government and the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to submit a formal response.
JPSC Highlights Procedural Issues in University Submissions
The JPSC informed the court that several submissions sent by universities were not in the proper format. The commission stated that petitions regarding appointments should be routed through the Personnel Department, but universities had sent them directly to JPSC. All improperly submitted requests were returned, and the court instructed the government to ensure that future submissions follow the proper administrative procedure.
Next Hearing Scheduled for September 25
The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for 25 September, continuing the scrutiny of appointments to vacant academic and non-academic posts in state universities. During the previous hearing, the court had already asked the government to provide a response regarding recent notifications issued for contractual appointments of teachers and staff in state universities.
Government Clarifies Contractual Appointment Process
The state government informed the court that following a recent official notification, universities have been hiring faculty and staff on a contractual basis. The High Court’s ongoing review aims to ensure that appointments are made in accordance with proper legal and administrative procedures, maintaining transparency and compliance with statutory norms.
