Ranchi, September 19, 2025: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) launched a strict campaign today against single-use plastic and plastic carry bags across the city. Acting on the orders of Additional Administrator Sanjay Kumar, the corporation’s enforcement team conducted raids in Vending Zone-2 and the Hatia area.

During the operation, officials confiscated 35 kilograms of plastic carry bags, 3,200 plastic cups, and 2,300 plastic spoons. The move is part of the municipal body’s ongoing efforts to enforce the ban on plastic items in public spaces.

The enforcement team provided a detailed account of the seized materials:

  • Vending Zone-2: 5 kg of plastic carry bags
  • Hatia Area: 30 kg of plastic carry bags, 3,200 plastic cups, 2,300 plastic spoons

Authorities confirmed that the crackdown would continue in other parts of Ranchi to prevent the circulation and usage of banned plastic products.

Official Warning Against Plastic Carry Bags

Additional Administrator Sanjay Kumar issued a strict warning to residents and shopkeepers, urging them to stop using plastic carry bags immediately. He emphasized that the corporation is committed to making Ranchi a plastic-free zone during the upcoming Durga Puja festival.

The municipal body has also announced that anyone found violating the ban on single-use plastic in Ranchi will face severe legal and administrative action.

Ranchi Aims for Plastic-Free Durga Puja Celebrations

With Durga Puja approaching, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has declared its intention to make the entire municipal area a plastic-free zone. Officials stated that strict surveillance will be maintained in marketplaces, vending zones, and public gatherings to ensure compliance with the ban.

The campaign reflects a growing effort across Jharkhand to curb plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives in public spaces.
