Jharkhand News: Grand Defence Expo Held in Ranchi, CM Hemant Soren Highlights Jharkhand’s Role in Nuclear Weapons

Ranchi, September 19, 2025: The three-day East Tech Symposium 2025 (Defence Expo) was inaugurated today at Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Khelgaon, Ranchi, marking the first-ever defence expo in the state. The event was inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by distinguished dignitaries including Governor Santosh Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari.

CDS General Anil Chauhan Highlights Space and Cyber Warfare Technologies

Addressing the gathering, CDS General Anil Chauhan emphasized the growing importance of space and cyber warfare technologies in light of evolving global security challenges. He highlighted the need for strategic weapon selection, continuous review of R&D for modern warfare, and expansion of the defence manufacturing base. He further noted the exploration of artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies to strengthen India’s defence capabilities.

Jharkhand’s Strategic Contribution to Defence Sector: CM Hemant Soren

Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that Jharkhand is rich in uranium resources and can play a significant role in nuclear weapons development. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the central government in making Jharkhand’s defence sector self-reliant, aligning with India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

First-Time Defence Expo in Jharkhand

The Eastern Command of the Indian Army is hosting the East Tech Symposium for the fourth time, but this is the first edition in Jharkhand. Previously, the expo was successfully organized in Kolkata (2022), Guwahati (2023), and Kolkata again (2024). The Ranchi expo is expected to provide innovation and industrial opportunities in the defence sector for both the state and the entire eastern region of India.

Showcase of Military Strength and Advanced Technology

Scheduled from 19 to 21 September at Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium, the expo will feature India’s three armed forces demonstrating their strength along with state-of-the-art defence technologies. The event is considered a major step towards enhancing defence innovation, research, and development in eastern India.
