Ranchi, December 17, 2024: The state government has unveiled an ambitious plan to tackle traffic congestion and pollution in the capital city of Ranchi. As part of this initiative, the government is set to introduce electric buses in the city, making commuting easier for residents while also helping reduce the pollution levels. Sudivya Kumar, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, has directed the introduction of electric buses in Ranchi as part of the city’s sustainable development plan.

The minister emphasized that the availability of buses every five minutes will encourage residents to rely less on private vehicles. This shift in transportation habits is expected to significantly reduce both pollution and traffic congestion in the city. Kumar further stated that the primary focus will be on making Ranchi beautiful and developed, after which attention will shift to other cities in the state. Additionally, a proposal has been made to create a four-lane road near the state assembly, which will further improve the city’s traffic system.

Electric Buses and the Future of Ranchi’s Public Transport

The introduction of electric buses is a pivotal step towards reducing the city’s carbon footprint and easing traffic congestion. The buses are expected to be a major upgrade in public transportation, offering a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional diesel-powered buses. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to promote sustainable urban mobility while making the city more livable for its residents.

Improvement in Traffic Infrastructure: Four-Lane Proposal

In another significant development, the government is planning to construct a four-lane road from Dhurwa to the Ring Road. This project is part of the Greater Ranchi Development Area plan and aims to improve the overall traffic flow in the city. The new road will ease travel between key areas and is expected to reduce bottlenecks, making commutes faster and more efficient.

Street Light Monitoring System for Better City Management

The government is also focusing on improving the city’s street lighting system. Minister Sudivya Kumar has directed the installation of a monitoring dashboard to track the status of street lights across the city. This system will allow authorities to identify faulty lights and ensure timely repairs, thereby enhancing public safety and visibility at night. Sandeep Kumar, the administrator of Ranchi Municipal Corporation, has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of this initiative.

Focus on Road Strengthening and Infrastructure Upgrades

Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar, in a recent meeting, revealed that reports on road strengthening have been requested from all municipal bodies. The government is committed to addressing the issues related to electric buses and street lighting soon. Kumar also shared plans for improving the city’s infrastructure, which will include a comprehensive review and upgrading of existing roads.

Ranchi’s Vision for a Sustainable and Efficient Urban Future

The government’s focus on addressing traffic congestion and pollution is part of a larger vision to transform Ranchi into a modern, sustainable city. By reducing dependence on private vehicles and promoting eco-friendly transport options, the government aims to create a cleaner, greener environment for its residents. The upcoming infrastructure projects, including the four-lane road and improved street lighting, will further enhance the city’s urban landscape, making it a model for other cities in the state.

These developments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Ranchi’s residents while addressing key urban challenges such as traffic congestion and pollution. With the introduction of electric buses, infrastructure upgrades and improved city management, Ranchi is poised for a more sustainable and efficient future.
