Ranchi, August 28, 2026: Ranchi Police conducted a citywide anti-crime checking drive on Friday, with teams deployed at more than 15 major and sensitive locations to check vehicles and suspicious persons.
The campaign was carried out on the direction of SSP Rakesh Ranjan as part of efforts to prevent crime, curb the activities of anti-social elements and strengthen security for residents. Police teams from different stations worked together and conducted checks simultaneously at multiple points across the city.
Checking at major city intersections
Police teams conducted checking and temporary barricading at locations including Sujata Chowk, New Market Chowk, Khelgaon, Shahid Maidan, Chandni Chowk and Birsa Chowk, among more than 15 locations.
Vehicles were checked during the operation, including their documents and boot compartments. Police also searched suspicious persons as part of the security exercise, particularly with a focus on preventing late-night criminal activities.
Drunk-driving checks
The campaign also included a special drive against drunk driving. At major intersections and important roads, motorists were checked with breath analysers to identify those driving under the influence of alcohol.
The action was aimed at enforcing traffic rules and helping prevent road accidents alongside the broader crime-control exercise.
Police appeal for public cooperation
Ranchi Police appealed to residents to cooperate with such security and checking drives. Police officials said surprise checking campaigns would continue in the city to strengthen the security system.
Residents have also been urged to immediately inform their nearest police station or call the emergency helpline 112 if they notice any suspicious person, object or activity.
