Koderma, August 30, 2026: Police in Koderma’s Markacho area carried out a raid against illegal mahua liquor production on Sunday, destroying an illicit brewing unit and disposing of around 2 quintals of fermented mahua (Java Mahua) and 20 litres of prepared mahua liquor.
The action was conducted as part of a district-wide campaign being carried out on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police to curb the illegal manufacture and sale of liquor.
Raid Conducted in Dumariya Village
Acting on a tip-off, Markacho police conducted a search operation in Dumariya village under Markacho police station limits.
During the raid, officers found an illegal mahua liquor brewing setup operating at the location. The police destroyed the furnace and other arrangements being used for brewing.
Around 200 kg of Java Mahua and 20 litres of finished mahua liquor were recovered during the operation and subsequently destroyed.
Suspects Flee as Police Reach Spot
According to police, the people allegedly involved in the illegal liquor operation fled the location after noticing the approaching police team.
Police are now working to identify those involved and determine their role in the illegal brewing activity.
SP Warns of Continued Action
The Koderma Superintendent of Police said the district police will continue its campaign against the manufacture, sale and consumption of illegal liquor.
Residents have also been urged to share information about illegal liquor-related activities with the police so that timely action can be taken.
