Jamshedpur, September 03, 2026: Bermo MLA and Congress leader Kumar Jai Mangal Singh, popularly known as Anup Singh, welcomed the reported ₹315 crore bonus payout to Tata Steel employees but expressed disappointment that a safety bonus was not included this time.
Singh made the remarks during his visit to the Jamshedpur Circuit House on Thursday, where Congress leaders and workers welcomed him with bouquets and a shawl.
Speaking to the media, Singh congratulated Tata Steel employees and union leaders on the bonus. At the same time, he said he was disappointed over the absence of the safety bonus.
Singh praises Tata Steel’s employee-focused approach
Singh praised Tata Steel’s approach towards its workforce and pointed to the scale of the current bonus payout.
He said that there was a time when the Tata company’s profit was around ₹314–315 crore, whereas a similar amount is now being distributed among employees as bonus.
Singh also described Tata as one of the major companies in the country that has traditionally been among the early companies to announce bonuses for its employees. He said Tata represents more than a corporate entity and recalled the contribution of the late Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata.
Congress leader seeks greater Centre support for Tata
Singh also criticised the Centre over what he described as inadequate support for Tata.
He said Tata is one of the country’s oldest and important companies and argued that companies that have contributed significantly to India’s development should receive appropriate government support to strengthen their operations.
The Congress leader also criticised central government policies and said his party was working to promote an Indian political outlook that rises above caste, religion and state boundaries.
Singh raises concerns over cess and mineral resources
On the issue of cess, Singh said states had earlier benefited from cess collections but alleged that the Centre was now removing such provisions. He claimed this could benefit industrialists and potentially lead to a major scam in the future.
He also raised concerns about environmental protection and the use of India’s mineral resources. Singh said that although the government talks about environmental conservation, more work was needed on the ground.
He argued that India’s mineral wealth should form part of the country’s development strategy and said the country could not remain dependent on China for mineral resources.
