Chaibasa, September 03, 2026: Around 300 medal-winning athletes and 35 coaches from West Singhbhum will be honoured at the fifth annual athlete and coach felicitation ceremony organised by the West Singhbhum District Olympic Association on September 6.
The ceremony will be held at Sunshine Restaurant in Chaibasa, with athletes affiliated to various sports associations recognised by the district Olympic body set to receive honours.
The date was announced by association president Nitin Prakash during a meeting held in connection with the event.
More athletes to be honoured this year
The number of athletes being recognised has increased from last year, when around 260 players were felicitated.
According to the association, athletes from West Singhbhum have secured medals at various state- and national-level competitions over the past year, leading to an increase in the number of awardees this time.
The association said athletes from different disciplines have also represented the district at state, national and international competitions and brought recognition to West Singhbhum.
Association stresses training and support
Nitin Prakash said the district has no shortage of sporting talent but athletes need appropriate platforms, better training and continued encouragement to progress.
He said the association has been working to support athletes and recognise their achievements.
Prakash also emphasised the contribution of coaches, saying an athlete’s success is closely linked to the hard work, guidance and commitment of their trainers. For this reason, 35 coaches will also be honoured during the ceremony.
The association expects the recognition to encourage the award-winning athletes and motivate other young people in the district to pursue sports.
Sports community expected to attend
District Olympic Association general secretary Ajay said there was considerable enthusiasm within the local sporting community ahead of the fifth edition of the event.
Officials of various sports associations, athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts are expected to attend the ceremony.
