Ranchi, September 11, 2026: Ranchi court on Friday reserved its decision on the bail plea of former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Deputy Controller of Examinations Shweta Gupta, who is in judicial custody in connection with an alleged examination irregularity case.
The hearing took place before Additional Judicial Commissioner Yogesh Kumar. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its order on the bail application.
Defence argues for bail
Shweta Gupta was represented by advocates Indrajit Sinha and Devarshi Mandal, who presented arguments before the court in support of her bail plea.
The prosecution opposed the application and sought to contest her release on bail.
The court did not announce its decision immediately and reserved the order after completion of the hearing.
CID arrested Shweta Gupta in July
The case relates to alleged irregularities in a JPSC examination. The CID registered Case No. 16/2026 in connection with the matter.
During the investigation, CID arrested Shweta Gupta on July 22. She was subsequently taken on remand for questioning.
After the completion of the interrogation, she was sent to judicial custody and has remained in jail since then.
More than 20 arrests in investigation
More than 20 people have reportedly been arrested so far in connection with the case.
The investigating agency is examining the alleged irregularities in the examination and the roles of individuals connected with the matter.
During the investigation, the agency also reportedly found that Shweta Gupta continued working at JPSC despite having been transferred to another department.
The allegations against Shweta Gupta and others remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The court’s decision on her bail is awaited.
