Ranchi, September 29, 2025: The city of Ranchi is preparing for one of its grandest Dussehra celebrations. On October 2, the annual Ravan Dahan at Morabadi Ground will feature towering effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad, along with spectacular fireworks and cultural performances. The event, organized by the Punjabi Hindu Biradari, has become one of the most awaited festivities in Jharkhand.
70-Foot Ravan Effigy and Golden Lanka at Morabadi
This year’s effigies include a 70-foot Ravan, 65-foot Kumbhkaran, and 60-foot Meghnad, complemented by a 30×30 ft Golden Lanka. A 21-member team from Gaya district in Bihar has worked for over a month to construct the effigies using bamboo, cloth, and paper. The structures have been made waterproof and will be set ablaze through remote control technology.
Remote-Controlled Burning and Hanuman Displays
Organizers announced that this year’s Ravan Dahan will again use remote control ignition. Around the ground, visitors will also witness giant Hanuman statues, adding to the spiritual and visual appeal. Jhankis (tableaux) from Uttar Pradesh are expected to further draw public attention.
Laser Show and Fireworks Planned in Ranchi Dussehra
For the first time, a six-minute laser show will be part of the Ravan Dahan celebrations in Ranchi. The event will also include colorful fireworks, sound effects, and pyrotechnics, creating a grand spectacle for thousands of attendees. Teams from Mumbai and Kolkata will handle the aerial fireworks, while ground-level firework displays will be conducted by experts from Bihar.
Historical Significance of Ravan Dahan in Ranchi
The tradition of Ravan Dahan in Ranchi dates back to 1948 when a 10-foot Ravan effigy was built at Ranchi College through community contributions. By the 1950s, the celebrations expanded, and since 1960, Morabadi Ground has remained the permanent venue. Over the decades, the Punjabi Hindu Biradari has continued the legacy, adding effigies of Meghnad, Kumbhkaran, and the Golden Lanka.
Political Leaders to Perform Symbolic Vadh
According to organizers, Chief Minister Hemant Soren will perform the symbolic killing of Ravan, while former minister C.P. Singh will slay Meghnad, and Member of Parliament Sanjay Seth will burn Kumbhkaran. The grand event, with a budget of nearly ₹20 lakh, will also showcase cultural performances, traditional dance, and Ramleela presentations by local and invited artists.
Artists and Cultural Performances in Ranchi Dussehra
Alongside local folk artists, performers from Uttar Pradesh and Kolkata will participate. The program will feature live Ram statues, tableaux of Ravan Vadh, and cultural shows, keeping alive the tradition of combining religious devotion with entertainment.
