Ranchi, September 7, 2026: The Crime Investigation Department’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested another accused in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC CGL) examination.
The accused, identified as Ranjan Kumar of Patna, was arrested on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation into the examination case registered under CID Police Station Case No. 01/2025.
Accused allegedly acted as intermediary
According to the investigation, Ranjan Kumar allegedly played the role of an intermediary in the examination-related network.
The CID has alleged that he took several JSSC CGL candidates to a hotel in Niamatpur, West Bengal, where they were allegedly made to memorise examination questions and answers before the test.
The agency suspects that the process was intended to provide certain candidates with an unfair advantage. Some of the candidates allegedly benefited from the arrangement and subsequently cleared the examination.
These allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been established in court.
Name emerged during questioning
The CID said Ranjan Kumar’s name surfaced during the questioning of previously arrested accused persons and some candidates in the case.
Based on information obtained during interrogation and technical evidence, the SIT began examining his alleged role in the examination-related activities.
Investigators subsequently found leads linking him to the case, following which the SIT arrested him.
CID questions accused to trace wider network
Following his arrest, Ranjan Kumar is being questioned by the CID team.
Investigators are expected to examine his alleged links with other people involved in the examination controversy and determine the extent of the network.
The agency is also looking for information that could help establish how candidates were allegedly provided access to examination-related material before the test.
The investigation into the JSSC CGL case remains underway.
