Ranchi, September 7, 2026: Kanke police have arrested five people in connection with a theft case in the Kanke police station area and recovered gold and silver jewellery, mobile phones and cash from the accused.
The case came to light on September 6 after local residents reportedly caught two people while they were allegedly attempting to commit a theft in Bodeya village.
Following the information, a Kanke police team reached the spot and took the two suspects into custody.
Two suspects caught by villagers
During questioning, the two suspects identified themselves as Vivek Tirkey and Sanju Toppo, both residents of Arsande in the Kanke area.
Police said questioning led to information about their alleged involvement in other theft incidents carried out with additional associates.
Based on information obtained during the investigation, police subsequently arrested three more alleged members of the group.
They were identified as Goris Tirkey, Sahib Ansari alias Banu and Nasir Ansari alias Pappu.
Jewellery, phones and cash recovered
Police recovered gold and silver jewellery, several mobile phones and cash from the arrested accused.
Investigators are now questioning the five to establish their alleged involvement in other theft cases and gather information about additional people who may be connected with the group.
The recovered items are also being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police team conducts operation
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Kanke police station in-charge Kunal Kumar.
Sub-inspectors Rajkumar Tigga, Satish Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Praveen Rajak and Gangadhar Singh, along with ASI Mangal Hembram and the police station reserve guard, were part of the team.
Police said further investigation is underway.
