Jamtara News: ₹89 Lakh Real Estate Fraud in Jamtara, Police Arrest Six Including Woman

Jamtara, September 29, 2025: Police in Jamtara have busted a gang involved in duping people by showing them a closed house as property for sale. Authorities confirmed that the fraud amounted to ₹89 lakh, and six individuals, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the case. The matter came to light during a press conference held at Sadar police station on Monday by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajkumar Mehta.

₹89 Lakh Fraud Through Vacant House in Jamtara

According to police, the accused showed a locked house located on Station Road, belonging to a Kolkata resident, Sameer Sarkar, to a retired employee’s family under the pretext of selling it. Believing the property deal to be genuine, the victim, identified as Mukesh Ruwani, son of retired employee Suresh Ruwani from Gabra village in Deoghar district’s Chitra police station area, transferred ₹89 lakh.

Conspiracy by Jamtara Residents

SP Mehta revealed that the fraud was masterminded by Jamtara resident Ghanshyam Mahato and his son Vikram Mahato. They allegedly included a woman, Tumpa Sarkhel, in the plan, along with others identified as Panchanan Das, Parimal Kumar Bauri, and Jisu Sarkar. The gang falsely presented themselves as relatives of the actual property owner, thereby misleading the victim into paying the huge sum.

Money Trail and Bank Transfers

Police investigation showed that of the total amount, ₹84 lakh was transferred into Tumpa Sarkhel’s account. From there, significant sums were further distributed, ₹27 lakh to Ghanshyam Mahato, ₹15.75 lakh to Panchanan Das, and ₹5.6 lakh to Vikram Mahato. Other members of the group also received their respective shares, according to officials.

Victims Targeted Due to Owner’s Absence

Authorities explained that since the real property owner did not reside in Jamtara, the accused exploited the situation to carry out the fraud. During the press conference, the arrested individuals were presented without face coverings.

Police Advisory on Real Estate Frauds in Jharkhand

SP Mehta stated that the accused preyed on people within their own communities, highlighting the importance of vigilance in property transactions. He emphasized that making such fraudsters publicly known would help prevent others from falling victim to similar scams in the future.

Senior officials including Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vikas Anand Languri and Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh, station in-charge, were present during the press briefing.
