Jharkhand News: Teenage Couple in Dumka Commits Suicide After Family Opposes Love

Ranchi, December 18, 2024: In a heartbreaking incident from Dumka, Jharkhand, a teenage couple ended their lives by jumping in front of a moving train. The tragedy occurred near Pole No. 19, about half a kilometer from the Harlatanr Station in the Saraiyahat Police Station area, on the Deoghar-Godda rail line. The incident took place on Tuesday when the couple, unable to cope with familial opposition to their relationship, reportedly decided to take this drastic step.

Train Suicide Claims Lives of Teenage Couple

According to police reports, the teenagers were struck by a passenger train traveling from Deoghar to Godda. Their bodies were found in a mutilated state due to the impact. Saraiyahat police rushed to the scene, recovered the remains and sent them for postmortem at PJMCH.

Love Blossomed in Tuition Classes

Investigations revealed that the boy, a resident of the Mohanpur Police Station area, had been living with his maternal grandfather in a village under the Saraiyahat Police Station area to pursue his education. The girl, also a minor, hailed from the same region.

The two reportedly met during tuition classes, where their friendship eventually turned into a romantic relationship. Despite their young age, the couple had pledged to spend their lives together.

Family Opposition to Teenage Romance

Local sources confirmed that both families were aware of the relationship but disapproved of it. Their discontent and opposition created significant emotional stress for the teenagers. The couple, frustrated by the familial resistance and societal pressure, reportedly decided to end their lives together.

Police Statement on the Incident

Saraiyahat Police Station in-charge, Tara Chand, stated that the couple’s decision to die together stemmed from their inability to marry due to family opposition. He confirmed that the couple jumped in front of the train to commit suicide.

The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, highlighting the pressures faced by young individuals in relationships, especially in rural areas where societal and familial expectations often outweigh personal choices.
