Temperature to Plummet Across Jharkhand Starting November 26

Ranchi, November 25, 2024: Jharkhand is bracing for a significant drop in temperature as cold weather conditions are set to intensify beginning November 26. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a sharp decline in temperatures across the state, triggered by a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal.

Residents in major cities like Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Garhwa are likely to experience colder mornings with foggy conditions and a thick layer of cloud cover. The minimum temperature is expected to dip by 2–3°C, signaling the onset of a harsher winter.

Bay of Bengal Low-Pressure System Behind Cold Wave

According to meteorologists, a developing low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will cause significant atmospheric changes over the Indian subcontinent. While this system primarily affects southern states, its ripple effects will be felt in Jharkhand due to cold winds originating from the southwest. These winds are anticipated to bring a noticeable chill to the air, especially during morning and evening hours.

Weather Updates for Major Jharkhand Cities

  • Ranchi: Foggy mornings and partly cloudy skies will dominate, with maximum temperatures hovering around 25°C and minimum temperatures expected to reach 10°C by November 28.
  • Jamshedpur: The steel city is expected to record maximum temperatures near 28°C and minimum temperatures as low as 11°C.
  • Garhwa: Sunday’s forecast already highlighted Garhwa as the coldest district in the state, with temperatures dipping to 10.6°C.

Meanwhile, regions like Pakur and Saraikela witnessed relatively warmer conditions with maximum temperatures recorded at 28.9°C. However, these areas too are expected to cool significantly in the coming days.

Fog and Cold Winds to Dominate Until November 28

The IMD has warned of dense fog blanketing most parts of Jharkhand during early mornings, leading to reduced visibility and cooler temperatures. This pattern is likely to persist until November 28, after which clearer skies may follow. However, residents should prepare for even lower minimum temperatures during the first week of December.

Winter Intensifies Across Jharkhand

As winter tightens its grip, the state’s overall temperature profile remains below seasonal averages. Meteorological data indicates that maximum temperatures in most districts are currently one degree lower than usual, signaling an early and potentially severe winter season.
