Ranchi, November 19, 2024: Jharkhand is experiencing a significant dip in temperatures as a cold wave sweeps across the region. Over the past week, the minimum temperature has fallen by 5 degrees, settling around 13°C in many areas. This sudden drop marks the onset of winter, with the Ranchi Weather Center attributing the changes to the La Niña effect, a global weather phenomenon linked to cooler conditions.

Meteorologists suggest that the drop in temperature is just the beginning, with colder days ahead. Residents in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and surrounding districts have already started feeling the chill, prompting the use of warm clothing earlier than usual.

Weather Forecast for Jharkhand

According to the Ranchi Weather Center, temperatures are expected to drop further in the coming days. The forecast predicts a reduction of 1–2°C in minimum temperatures by November 21. While the skies are expected to remain mostly clear, light fog and misty mornings are likely in districts such as Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Bokaro.

Abhishek Anand, a senior meteorologist at the Ranchi Weather Center, stated that Jharkhand’s winter could be more intense this year, with dense fog expected to envelop several regions. The cold wave conditions may persist into February and March, prolonging the chilly season compared to previous years.

This year’s winter is anticipated to be harsher due to the prolonged influence of La Niña, which has led to sharper temperature drops across northern and eastern India. Scientists have noted that the cooling effect has resulted in lower-than-usual temperatures during November, setting the stage for a colder winter overall.

Unlike the past few years, Jharkhand residents may face extended periods of dense fog and biting cold. Experts recommend preparing early, as the colder months might have a significant impact on daily life, particularly in areas dependent on outdoor activities.
