Ranchi, September 02, 2025: The weather in Jharkhand has taken a sudden turn with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rainfall alert across several districts. A low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal has now intensified into a depression, likely to impact large parts of the state from October 2 to October 4, 2025.

IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert in Jharkhand

The IMD has warned of widespread heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in multiple districts of Jharkhand. Officials confirmed that the depression’s influence will be most visible in the southern, central, and northwestern regions of the state.

Rainfall Recorded in Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Other Districts

By Wednesday afternoon, intermittent showers were reported in Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Koderma, Ramgarh, and Hazaribagh, which intensified into heavy rainfall by night. Ranchi witnessed continuous downpour, bringing down temperatures and creating a cool weather pattern across the capital city.

October 2 Forecast: Heavy Rain in Southern and Central Jharkhand

According to the weather alert, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti, East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, and Simdega districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall. IMD has also warned of strong winds and possible lightning strikes in these areas.

October 3 Forecast: Orange and Yellow Alert in Several Districts

On October 3, the impact of the depression will shift towards northwestern Jharkhand. An orange alert has been issued for Chatra, Garhwa, and Palamu, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in effect for Dhanbad, Giridih, Koderma, Latehar, Bokaro, and Hazaribagh, signaling chances of intense showers with thunderstorms.

October 4 Forecast: Seven Districts Under Heavy Rainfall Warning

The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall on October 4 in Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Sahibganj, Chatra, Garhwa, and Palamu. The department has also cautioned about lightning strikes and gusty winds in these regions, urging residents to remain alert.

Drop in Temperature and Advisory for Residents

Meteorologists predict a drop in temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius due to continuous rain and cloud cover. The weather department has appealed to citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and take necessary safety measures during this three-day spell of adverse weather.
