Ranchi, September 2, 2026: The uncertainty surrounding 1,932 employees recruited through the JSSC CGL examination has entered a new phase. Although the employees have returned to their respective departments following interim relief from the Jharkhand High Court, their salary payments are reportedly still pending due to administrative complications surrounding their rejoining.
The employees had resumed duty after the High Court put a stay on the state government’s decision to cancel their appointments. However, the absence of a clear departmental communication regarding the rejoining process has created difficulties in processing their pay.
High Court stay cleared way for rejoining
The dispute escalated after the state government, during a special Cabinet meeting on August 17, decided to cancel the appointments of the 1,932 employees.
The affected employees subsequently approached the Jharkhand High Court. On August 20, 2026, the court stayed the government’s decision, observing that principles of natural justice must be followed before taking action affecting an employee’s appointment.
Following the interim order, the employees began rejoining their respective departments from August 23 and resumed their duties.
Rejoining order creates administrative uncertainty
The issue, however, did not end with their return to work.
According to the employees, the Personnel Department has not issued a clear formal communication concerning their rejoining. This has reportedly left departments uncertain about the administrative basis on which their pay records and salary documents should be processed.
The complication stems from the fact that the government decision had cancelled the appointments themselves rather than merely terminating the employees’ services.
Salary processing remains pending
Employees say that without a clear rejoining order from the Personnel Department, finance officials in their respective departments are unable to complete the process required for generating their pay slips and releasing salaries.
Those affected include employees working in posts such as Section Officer, Junior Secretariat Assistant, Block Supply Officer and Circle Inspector.
The delay has added financial pressure on employees who have already resumed their official duties but are awaiting clarity on salary processing.
CID investigation adds another layer of uncertainty
At the same time, the employees remain under the shadow of the ongoing CID investigation into alleged irregularities in the JSSC CGL examination.
The source material states that the investigation agency has so far questioned more than 150 selected candidates and arrested five people in connection with the case. The CID is also planning to question all 1,932 employees.
The investigation is separate from the administrative issue concerning salary payments, and questioning or investigation does not by itself establish wrongdoing by an individual employee.
September 15 hearing could be crucial
The employees’ attention is now focused on September 15, 2026, when the matter is scheduled to come up again before the Jharkhand High Court.
The next hearing is expected to provide further clarity on the dispute surrounding their appointments and could also influence the administrative uncertainty over their continued service and salary processing.
For the 1,932 employees, the immediate concerns remain the same: retaining their jobs, completing the formal rejoining process and receiving the salary due to them while the legal and investigative proceedings continue.
