Ranchi Municipal Corporation Sanitation Workers Call Off Strike

Ranchi, September 24, 2025: The proposed strike of sanitation workers of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), scheduled for September 25, has been deferred. The decision came after a tripartite meeting on Wednesday between the Jharkhand Municipal Workers’ Union, RMC officials, and the Deputy Labour Commissioner. The development was confirmed by Union President Bhavan Singh.

Jharkhand Municipal Workers’ Union Places Key Demands

According to Union representatives, the sanitation workers had raised multiple demands concerning working conditions, wages, and service benefits. The administration agreed to address several issues during the talks.
Key accepted demands include:

  • Provision of four national holidays during major festivals
  • Eight days of paid leave
  • Promotion of unskilled workers to the skilled category
  • Reinstatement of workers dismissed from service
  • Employment for dependents of deceased workers
  • Release of pending salary dues from December 2013 of A to Z Company
  • Payment of salary arrears from April 1, 2025, in three installments
  • Issuance of official identity cards to sanitation workers

Bonus, Leave, and Regularization to Be Taken Up in Next Round

Union President Bhavan Singh clarified that decisions regarding annual bonus, additional leave, and permanent status of workers will be discussed in the next round of negotiations. Meanwhile, a meeting of sanitation workers has been scheduled at the Hatia Mazdoor Union office on September 25 at 3 PM, where details of Wednesday’s settlement will be communicated.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation Officials Present in Talks

The tripartite discussion was attended by senior Ranchi Municipal Corporation officials, including Additional Administrator Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Administrators Gautam Prasad and Ravindra Kumar, Assistant Administrators Dilip Kumar and Chandra Deep Kumar, along with Ranchi Assistant Labour Commissioner Avinash Krishna.
Representatives of the Jharkhand Municipal Workers’ Union included President Bhavan Singh, General Secretary Prakash Toppo, Secretary Sukhnath Lohra, Assistant Secretary Sujita Devi, and Patron Amal Azad.
