Giridih, November 03, 2024: In a decisive action against illegal alcohol trafficking, the Giridih police seized 86 cartons of English-made liquor and arrested one individual involved in the operation. The crackdown took place following coordinated raids by teams from Jamua and Muffasil police stations on Wednesday.
Acting on intelligence, the police first targeted Dwarapahari, where they intercepted a Bolero vehicle allegedly being used to transport large quantities of branded liquor. The driver, identified as Kailash Sahu, had concealed cartons of alcohol beneath the vehicle seats, intending to bypass checkpoints unnoticed.
In a subsequent raid, authorities targeted Sahu’s property in Makoria village. Here, inside a marriage hall owned by Sahu, police uncovered 86 cartons of premium liquor stashed in a hidden storage area. Investigators report that the marriage hall also doubles as Sahu’s residence, further complicating the operation’s logistics.
According to sources close to the investigation, Sahu’s son-in-law, Dablu Sahu, a resident of Chirki in Peertand, was also implicated in the scheme. Authorities believe the duo was preparing to transport the seized alcohol to neighboring Bihar, capitalizing on the state’s demand for black-market liquor. Police officials have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Sahu and have confiscated the vehicle along with the illegal liquor haul.
This significant seizure adds to the ongoing efforts by Jharkhand police to curb illicit liquor trade in the region, which continues to challenge law enforcement due to its cross-border nature and organized networks.
