Dhanbad News: Uproar During Municipal Corporation Action Against Illegal Gutkha Shop in Hirapur, Dhanbad

Dhanbad, September 25, 2025 Tension erupted on Thursday near Vivekanand Chowk in Hirapur, Dhanbad, when the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation team launched an operation to remove an illegal gutkha shop. The drive, led by the corporation officials, quickly turned into a scene of uproar as the shopkeeper resisted the action.

Illegal Gutkha Shop Removal Sparks Protest in Hirapur

According to eyewitnesses, the municipal corporation team reached the location after receiving complaints about unauthorized shops selling gutkha in Hirapur. The shopkeeper allegedly opposed the demolition and created a ruckus at the site. Local shopkeepers stated that the corporation had already allotted authorized shops in the area, but some individuals forcibly erected makeshift kiosks to sell gutkha without permission.

Allegations of Illegal Encroachment in Dhanbad

Traders in Hirapur claimed that earlier money was collected under the pretext of allowing shops, but in recent days, certain individuals illegally occupied land near Vivekanand Chowk and began operating without valid licenses. Residents highlighted that no shops had existed in the area for the last 20 years. However, in recent months, a makeshift structure was forcibly set up, allegedly encouraging illegal trade of gutkha in Dhanbad.

Clash Between Municipal Corporation Team and Shopkeepers

During the operation, a heated exchange took place between municipal staff, contractors, and the shopkeeper. Witnesses reported verbal abuse and confrontation when the team attempted to dismantle the illegal setup. The situation intensified before authorities managed to bring it under control.

Municipal Food Inspector Confirms Action Against Gutkha Trade

Municipal Food Inspector Anil Kumar confirmed that the raid was conducted after multiple complaints regarding illegal gutkha sales. He said, “The shop was operating without authorization, and gutkha was being sold illegally. When the team began removing the makeshift structure, the shopkeeper resisted and used abusive language. Eventually, the illegal shop was dismantled.”
