Panic at Dhanbad Railway Station as Boy’s Hand Gets Stuck in Luggage Scanner; Rescued After One-Hour Effort

Dhanbad, October 7, 2025 (J.H.): A major mishap was averted late Monday night at Dhanbad Railway Station when a young boy’s hand got trapped in the luggage scanning machine installed near the south platform exit gate. The incident triggered panic among passengers and railway staff, but after an hour-long rescue effort, the child was safely freed.

Boy Identified as Shubham Agarwal from Dhanbad

The injured boy has been identified as Shubham Agarwal, son of Rajeev Ranjan Agarwal, also known as Bablu Agarwal, a resident of Purana Bazaar, Dhanbad. According to sources, the Agarwal family had just arrived at Dhanbad Railway Station by Intercity Express on Monday night.

Due to heavy rainfall, the family was waiting near the exit gate on the south side of the station. During this time, Shubham, while playing nearby, went close to the luggage scanner machine and accidentally inserted his hand into it, which got trapped inside.

RPF and Station Staff Swiftly Responded

The incident caused chaos at the railway station, prompting an immediate response from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station staff. Officials quickly stopped the machine’s operation to prevent further injury and began rescue efforts.

With the help of cutting equipment, rescue personnel carefully dismantled a portion of the scanning machine’s plate to free the child’s hand. After nearly an hour of continuous effort, Shubham was successfully rescued without major injuries, bringing relief to the gathered crowd.

Railway Authorities to Review Safety Measures

Railway officials at Dhanbad Station said that the incident has raised serious concerns regarding passenger safety near luggage scanning zones, especially for children. Authorities have been instructed to conduct a safety review and ensure proper barricading and supervision around scanning machines to prevent such accidents in the future.
