Jamshedpur, November 21, 2024: The fifth edition of the prestigious SHE Excellence Awards was held with great fanfare at the Archery Ground of the JRD Tata Sports Complex, themed “Accept, Evolve, Excel.” The event, aimed at promoting excellence in safety, health and environmental practices and fostering a fair and responsible workplace, marked another milestone in Tata Steel’s ongoing commitment to these principles.

Established in Financial Year 2020, the SHE Excellence Awards are designed to recognize and motivate employees who demonstrate dedication, leadership, and responsibility in these critical areas. This initiative reflects Tata Steel’s belief that leadership and staff engagement are vital in strengthening these core values.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Tata Steel’s CEO and Managing Director, TV Narendran. In his inspirational address, Narendran emphasized that ensuring the safety of each individual is the company’s primary responsibility. He commended the exceptional efforts of all those who had set benchmarks in the fields of safety, health and the environment. “Safety should not just be a principle but a core value that is demonstrated through action,” Narendran said. He urged everyone to face challenges with an open heart, act responsibly and strive for excellence that has a positive impact on society and the environment.

Rajiv Mangal, Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, highlighted the company’s multi-faceted approach by making development and safety the foundation of its operations. He emphasized the importance of personal accountability, a culture of care and the goal of achieving zero loss. Mangal noted Tata Steel’s ambitious sustainability plans, stating that the company is committed to achieving a net-zero target by 2045 and setting global benchmarks for safety and environmental standards.

Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, President of the Tata Workers Union, stressed the continuous improvement of standards in each edition of the SHE Excellence Awards. He praised the critical role played by vendor partners, particularly supervisors and workers at the grassroots level. Chaudhary also highlighted the importance of involving these employees in awards and recognition programs, which promote an inclusive and empowered approach at the operational level.

The event was further enriched by a lively performance from The Great Indian Coir, showcasing a mix of Indian classical music, retro hits, and chart-topping numbers. Artists like Prakash Wadekar and Arthi Vara brought the performance to life, captivating the audience.
