Ranchi: A five-member team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted a raid at a residence near the Raidih flyover in Tamar, Ranchi, on Friday morning and detained a man identified as Pankaj Gupta.
The team, led by an NCB SP, reached the house around 9 am in plain clothes and carried out the operation discreetly. The area was reportedly cordoned off before the team entered the premises.
Digital lock delays search
The search was reportedly delayed by a modern digital smart lock installed at the house.
According to sources, the NCB team faced difficulties entering the residence after the digital lock remained closed. It took around two and a half hours to open the lock and proceed with the search.
No suspicious material reportedly recovered
After an extensive search lasting around two and a half hours, no objectionable or suspicious material was reportedly recovered from the house, according to information from sources.
The NCB took Pankaj Gupta with the team for questioning in connection with an unspecified case.
At the local level, there is speculation that the action could be linked to drug trafficking or an older network. However, this has not been officially established.
The NCB has not yet issued a detailed official statement explaining the basis for the action. Further details about the case and the reasons for Gupta’s detention are expected to become clear once the agency makes an official statement.
