Dumka, August, 29, 2026: The month-long Shravani Mela 2026 at Baba Basukinath Dham in Dumka district concluded on Friday evening, with 46,95,605 devotees offering water at the temple during the fair, according to district administration figures.
The annual religious gathering drew devotees from different parts of the country. Despite the large crowds, the administration said the event concluded peacefully and without any loss of life.
The temple recorded a total income of ₹6,04,92,417 from various sources during the Mela period.
Nearly 47 lakh devotees offered water
According to the detailed figures released by the district administration after the conclusion of the fair, 46,95,605 devotees offered water at Baba Basukinath during the one-month event.
Another 1,07,318 devotees used the Sheeghra Darshanam facility, while 18,000 Dak Bam devotees offered water at the temple.
Arrangements were made throughout the month to manage the large crowds and facilitate devotees’ movement, darshan and water offerings.
Basukinath temple records more than ₹6 crore income
The temple generated ₹6,04,92,417 during Shravani Mela 2026 from various sources.
Of this, ₹5,36,59,000 was collected through 1,07,318 Sheeghra Darshanam coupons. The donation boxes contributed ₹42,69,190, while other sources accounted for ₹2,92,972. The temple’s golak yielded another ₹22,69,505.
Devotees also offered 8,159 grams of silver and 15 grams of gold during the Mela.
More than 21,000 separated devotees reunited with families
A dedicated information assistance system was operated during the fair to help people who became separated from their family members in the crowds.
According to the administration, information assistance personnel helped reunite 21,763 separated devotees with their families during the Mela.
Accommodation arrangements were also made for devotees, while multiple information channels were used to provide necessary assistance in the fair area.
Personnel who performed outstanding work during the event were also honoured at the closing ceremony.
Deputy Commissioner Abhijeet Sinha highlights coordination
Addressing the closing ceremony on Friday, Dumka Deputy Commissioner Abhijeet Sinha said this was the first year in which the state-level Shravani Mela had been completed on such a scale without any loss of life.
He thanked everyone involved in organising and managing the event and said several new arrangements had been introduced this year.
According to Sinha, facilitating orderly and smooth water offerings for millions of devotees was the result of planning, effective arrangements and coordination among different departments.
Officials and personnel from the district administration and police, along with the Health Department, Electricity Department, National Disaster Response Force and other concerned departments, carried out their responsibilities throughout the month.
Sinha said ensuring a safe and convenient pilgrimage for devotees remained a key priority for the district administration. He added that the administration would use this year’s experience and suggestions received from devotees to further improve arrangements for the Shravani Mela in coming years.
