Deoghar, September 18, 2025: A shocking case of domestic violence was reported from Raniganj village under Sarath block in Deoghar district, where a man allegedly killed his pregnant wife with an axe. The accused, identified as Basant Mohli, has been taken into custody by the police.
Pregnant Wife Murder in Deoghar Linked to Family Dispute
According to initial information, the victim has been identified as Khushi Devi, who was several months pregnant. The incident is said to have stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple. Police sources confirmed that the accused husband used a sharp-edged axe (tangi) to commit the crime.
Deoghar Police Detain Accused Husband After Midnight Patrol
Police officials from Sarath police station received information about the incident during a late-night patrol in the village. Acting on the tip-off, a police team reached the crime scene and took Basant Mohli into custody. The body of the victim was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain further details.
Accused Confesses to Crime During Interrogation
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to killing his wife, claiming that she often quarreled with him. Frustrated by frequent disputes, he confessed to attacking her with the axe.
Family of Victim Accuses Husband’s Relatives
While police confirmed the confession of the accused, the victim’s family members have alleged that not only Basant Mohli but also his relatives were involved in the murder. They have demanded strict legal action against all those responsible.
Ten-Year Marriage and Family Background of Victim
As per local sources, Basant Mohli married Khushi Devi nearly ten years ago, a resident of Shimla Panchayat. The couple already has a five-year-old son. Recently, Khushi Devi was pregnant again, making the crime even more tragic and alarming for the community.
