Giridih, November 08, 2024: In a strategic move aimed at curbing potential election-related malpractices, the Giridih district administration has intensified its measures against unlawful transactions. On Friday, during a routine vehicle inspection campaign conducted in Sihodih under the Muffasil police station, an SST (Static Surveillance Team) intercepted a businessman transporting cash. The team seized ₹3.4 lakh from the individual, identified as Sagar Thakur, a resident of Maniya village in Banka district, Bihar.
Vehicle Inspection Leads to Cash Seizure
The SST team, aware of the potential for cash to influence electoral processes, has been closely monitoring financial activities within the district. The seized amount was discovered while Thakur was en route to a local factory in Giridih to purchase iron rods. Despite his explanation, preliminary questioning did not yield any substantial evidence to validate the legitimacy of the funds.
Lack of Supporting Documentation
Upon interception, the businessman was unable to provide documentation or proof justifying the cash in his possession. The absence of proper records raised immediate concerns for the SST team, leading to the decision to seize the money for further investigation. Law enforcement officials confirmed that initial findings pointed towards non-compliance with mandatory cash regulations, especially during the heightened scrutiny of the electoral period.

Authorities have since taken possession of the funds and are conducting detailed inquiries to ascertain whether the money was linked to any illicit activity or electoral misconduct. Sagar Thakur is currently under investigation, with further action pending based on the findings.
