Ranchi/Gumla, September 24, 2025: A major encounter between Jharkhand Police and members of the JJMP extremist group (Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad) took place on Wednesday morning in the Kechki forest under Bishunpur police station limits in Gumla district. In the operation, three extremists were killed and one was arrested, marking a significant breakthrough in Jharkhand’s anti-Naxal campaign.

Details of JJMP Encounter in Gumla

According to Gumla Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Zaman, security forces received intelligence that JJMP extremists had gathered in Bishunpur area to plan a major attack. Acting on this input, a joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and Gumla district police launched a search operation in the dense Kechki forest.

As the forces advanced, extremists opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle between police and JJMP cadres. In retaliatory action, police neutralized three extremists on the spot while successfully capturing another.

Identities of the Deceased JJMP Extremists

Police confirmed that those killed in the encounter were Lalu Lohra and Sujit Oraon of Senha, Lohardaga district, and Chhotu Oraon of Hoshir, Latehar district. The captured extremist is currently being interrogated for further details on JJMP’s network and plans in the region.

Weapons Seized from JJMP Cadres

Following the encounter, security forces recovered a large cache of arms from the extremists. The seized weapons include:

  • One 5.56 rifle
  • One Self-Loading Rifle (SLR)
  • One INSAS rifle

The recovery highlights the growing weaponization of the banned group, which has been active in Jharkhand’s Maoist-affected districts.

Jharkhand Police Intensify Anti-Naxal Operations

The Gumla SP stated that search operations are being intensified across the forested zones to eliminate remaining extremist elements. Security forces are maintaining a strict vigil in Bishunpur, Latehar, and Lohardaga belts, known for Maoist activities.

The JJMP encounter in Gumla marks another success in the state’s continuing efforts against left-wing extremism, as police aim to restore peace and security in rural Jharkhand.
