Ranchi, September 30, 2025: The Jharkhand government has constituted a five-member Group of Ministers (GoM) to review and recommend measures for the conservation and development of Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Asia’s largest Sal forests. The GoM will be headed by Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore.

Jharkhand Forms Ministerial Panel for Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary

The panel was formed following a decision taken at the Cabinet meeting on September 24. Its primary objective is to ensure ecological preservation of the Saranda forest while safeguarding the interests of the tribal communities residing in the region.

Members of the Group of Ministers on Saranda Forest

Along with Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore as chairperson, the GoM includes:

  • Deepak Birua, Revenue Minister
  • Chamra Linda, Welfare Minister
  • Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Industries Minister
  • Deepika Singh Pandey, Rural Development Minister

Responsibilities of the Group of Ministers

The Saranda panel has been tasked to:

  • Conduct field visits to the forest region
  • Review ecological, social, and developmental aspects
  • Submit recommendations to the Cabinet
  • Maintain a balance between forest conservation and sustainable development

Government Departments to Support the Saranda Panel

The Forest, Environment, and Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Departments will assist the GoM in its activities. Additionally, the respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) will coordinate arrangements related to accommodation, transport, and security for the ministerial team during field visits.

Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary in Jharkhand

Spread across West Singhbhum district, the Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary is globally known for its rich biodiversity and extensive Sal forests. The region is home to several tribal communities and rare wildlife species, making its conservation a priority for both ecological and socio-cultural reasons.
