Saraikela Incident Unfolds Following Mobile Theft Dispute

Saraikela, November 25, 2024: In a tragic escalation of events, a dispute over a stolen mobile phone led to the murder of Shambhu Lohar in the Bantanagar Dobo Dungri area under the RIT police station limits on Friday night. Acting swiftly, the police arrested two suspects, identified as Dharmendra Baskey and Rahul Kalindi, both of whom have a prior history of theft-related offenses.

The victim, Shambhu Lohar, was brutally killed using a stone, according to preliminary reports from law enforcement. The body was discovered in the courtyard of his residence.

Police Investigation Reveals Key Motive Behind the Crime

Saraikela Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sameer Sawaiya stated that the investigation began on November 23, when police were alerted to a body lying in the victim’s courtyard. Shambhu Lohar, who had previously served jail time for theft, had reportedly stolen a mobile phone belonging to Dharmendra Baskey. Enraged, Baskey along with his accomplice Rahul Kalindi, allegedly conspired to kill Lohar.

Incriminating evidence, including the stone used in the murder, a blood-stained shirt, a cap, a jacket, a bike and the stolen mobile phone, were recovered during the investigation.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

Under the leadership of RIT police station in-charge Vinay Kumar, a special team was formed to investigate the case. The team, consisting of officers Shashi Bhushan Singh Munda, Sanjeet Kumar, Rajkumar Saha, Chandan Kumar, constable Umashankar Singh and armed personnel, conducted raids that led to the swift arrest of the accused.

Both Baskey and Kalindi, who have prior convictions for theft, were taken into judicial custody following their arrest. Their previous criminal records have raised concerns over repeated offenses, prompting discussions on stricter preventive measures for habitual offenders.

Evidence Strengthens Case Against Accused

The evidence collected by the police plays a crucial role in the investigation. The recovery of the murder weapon and other items linked to the crime has strengthened the case against the accused. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather additional information to ensure a watertight prosecution.

The local community in Bantanagar Dobo Dungri remains in shock following the incident. Residents have expressed concerns over escalating disputes leading to violent outcomes.
